Harshal Patel’s brilliance got rid of Dwaine Pretorius just as he was looking extremely dangerous in the first T20I of the five-match series between India and South Africa being played at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on June 9.
South Africa captain Temba Bavuma won the toss and chose to bowl first. Aiden Markram missed out on the match after testing COVID-19 positive and instead Tristan Stubbs made his debut for Proteas.
For India, Rishabh Pant made his captaincy debut and Hardik Pandya and Dinesh Karthik made their Indian team comebacks as well.
Ishan Kishan took full advantage of the powerplay overs, hammering the Proteas bowlers to all parts of the Arun Jaitley Stadium. On the other hand, Gaikwad made 23 in 15 balls with 3 sixes before getting out caught off Wayne Parnell.
Kishan got out for 76 runs in 48 balls with 11 fours and 3 sixes to Keshav Maharaj after hitting him for 2 sixes and 2 fours earlier in that same over. Apart from him, Shreyas Iyer (36, 3 sixes, 1 four), Rishabh Pant (26; 2 sixes, 2 fours), and Hardik Pandya (31*; 2 fours, 3 sixes), propelled India to a competitive total of 211/4 in 20 overs.
Dwaine Pretorius Slams Hardik Pandya For Three Sixes In An Over; Harshal Patel Ends His Innings In Style
Bhuvneshwar Kumar gave India their first break as Temba Bavuma was caught behind for 10 runs. While Quinton de Kock started off cautiously; Dwaine Pretorius was promoted to the no.3 spot to take advantage of the powerplay overs and he did just that.
He first hit Yuzvendra Chahal for a six and a four and then hammered three sixes in one over from Hardik Pandya. He was looking extremely dangerous, and then Rishabh Pant tossed the ball to Harshal Patel.
Harshal brought all his IPL and domestic experience out and bowled a slower ball, basically a full toss to Pretorius the first delivery he faced. Pretorius, who had been swinging at everything, decided to defend it and missed the ball, as it clattered into his stumps, ending his knock at 29 in 13 balls.
