South Africa National Cricket Team bowling all-rounder Dwaine Pretorius castled India National Cricket Team star batter Shreyas Iyer in the first match of the five-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Thursday, June 9.
Shreyas Iyer came to bat with an aggressive mindset in the match against South Africa and at one point in time, he was batting at 22 runs off 8 balls. Also, he smashed some brilliant looking sixes to Proteas spinners.
Iyer was dismissed by Dwaine Pretorius on the 1st ball of the 17th over and he was able to score 36 runs off 27 balls, including 1 four and 3 sixes.
The Proteas all-rounder delivered a brilliant off-cutter to the Indian batter that gripped the pitch and turned back in. Iyer tried to play it across the line but he completely missed it and the ball knocked over the off stump.
Meanwhile, this was Iyer’s 5th consecutive good knock in the T20I cricket as in the last four T20I innings he had scored 73*(45), 74*(44), 57*(28) and 25(16).
I was having this back issue that was really irritating me – Shreyas Iyer
Speaking to the host broadcaster ahead of the match, Shreyas Iyer revealed that he was having some irritating back issues after the IPL 2022 but it got better with the rest. He also said that he had some good training sessions before the match against South Africa. He elaborated:
“Straight after the IPL I relaxed for a while. I was having this back issue that was really irritating me. After some rest it got really better and then I hit the nets. I had really good two days of training and practice. Good four sessions I had before coming into this game. I am in a good frame of mind.
“We knew it was going to be hot and it was essential to keep ourselves hydrated. We did some catching under the dark skies just to get used to it. The dynamics and the structure was set over the last few series so it was just a like top up session for us leading up to the game.”
