Delhi Capitals (DC) captain Rishabh Pant was delighted after his team defeated Punjab Kings (PBKS) on Monday to register back-to-back wins for the first time in the IPL 2022 season.
DC needed a win to make sure their fate remained in their hands and the victory over Punjab now means that they just need to secure a win in the final game against Mumbai Indians to qualify for the playoffs.
“Throughout the tournament, we have been losing one, and winning one game. That’s something we wanted to change as a team and we got it.”
“The change of pace from Livingstone was good, so it’s part and parcel of the game. Can’t be too hard on Warney (Warner) because he has been playing fantastic throughout the tournament,” Pant said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
Against PBKS, DC set a target of 160 before restricting their opponents to 142. Shardul Thakur took four wickets while Kuldeep Yadav bowled three overs and took two wickets, including that of Liam Livingstone.
“We saved him (Kuldeep) for back half, then the dew came in so we didn’t want to give a massive over for someone. It’s a 50-50 call.”
“The only process was to take it deep, with spinners getting help and we saw the same pattern happen with the other team as well. We gonna assess the wicket and see how it goes (next game). We will get to know in few days time (regarding Prithvi Shaw’s injury update),” Pant further added.
As for Punjab, they now need other results to go their way and they also have to win their final game against Sunrisers Hyderabad to stay alive in the tournament.
DC – 159/7 in 20 overs
PBKS – 142/9 in 20 overs
