Anthony Joshua works out ahead of Oleksandr Usyk fight

Oleksandr Usyk arrived to the press conference dressed as The Joker but Anthony Joshua has vowed to have the final laugh and record victory.

Joshua and Usyk will face-of in a huge heavyweight clash in London on Saturday night with the unified titles on the line.

And Usyk attended dressed in a bright orange suit impersonating The Joker as he tried to entertain at the pre-fight show.

But Joshua has called for business and focus, vowing to knock out his opponent in devastating fashion.

“My plan is knockout,” Joshua told Boxing Social. “I like Emmanuel Steward’s idea of covering your A’s B’s and C’s which leads you to your KO.

“You guys know we are here for a great fight Saturday. I hope you guys are happy with the opponent choice, because boxing needs it.

“We’ve got other competitions in the entertainment business and boxing is a great sport that has great potential, but without great fights and great matchups, it will never be able to reach its potential.

“You look at [Evander] Holyfield when he turned into the heavyweight division, 25 years old fought six heavyweights. Usyk’s a bit older, so he wants to get involved in the heavyweight division a bit earlier.

“He hasn’t got that same amount of time, and well done to him for taking on the challenge. People talk about my resume, but he’s obviously a good fighter and warrior as well.”

Joshua has shown off a lean physique ahead of the clash, which could see him come in at his lightest weight since 2013 according to a bookies lowdown.

And Joshua has unveiled his pre-fight plan to work on movement and technique, with his opponent predicting a chess match.

“I looked at all Usyk’s attributes,” Joshua said. “I worked on what I will need to do against him: The placing of my feet, the positioning of the hands, the timing and setting up of punches against a counter-punching southpaw, the angles, the total concentration.

“Everything it takes to outclass a clever opponent in all those departments. They are the depths I’ve thrown myself into for this fight. And for all the fights to come.

“It’s not annoying to me that people look upon Usyk as the superior technical boxer, he is very good. And I know it’s not just about being big and just going into that ring and knocking him out inside 20 seconds with my first big punch.

“If that’s all it was then why would I have been so motivated to get out of bed at dawn to train? To put in the hard yards. To fatigue myself physically and mentally to recover in the space of six or seven hours and then get up the next morning and do it all over again.”

Usyk is being tipped by many to cause Joshua problems, but both Joshua’s domestic rivals Tyson Fury and Dillian Whyte are backing the 31-year-old to record victory.

And he has vowed to avenge the defeat of Tony Bellew who was stopped by Usyk back in 2019.
