Thomas Tuchel is still in the market for more new signings as he tries to strengthen his squad further for the title challenge ahead, while some fringe stars could move on
Chelsea have already broken their club transfer record this summer to bring in Romelu Lukaku – but the Blues are still chasing further arrivals heading into deadline day.
An agreement for Jules Kounde looked to be in place with Sevilla as the defender left the country ready to finalise his move – but there’s been a hitch in negotiations.
The clock is now ticking on Chelsea if they want to get the deal over the line, while they are also trying to offload some of their current crop.
Kurt Zouma and Tiemoue Bakayoko are the latest stars to depart as Thomas Tuchel trims down his squad.
Who else will leave before the window slams shut?
Here are the latest transfer rumours from Stamford Bridge.
Kounde deal in doubt
Everything seemed to be going the direction Chelsea wanted it to – but Sevilla have had other ideas.
Both clubs are said to have reached a ‘verbal agreement’ over the transfer of the 22-year-old, with Chelsea willing to pay £43million for his services.
But Sevilla have since upped their bid at the 11th hour in a bid to force Chelsea’s hand.
The Spanish club want an additional 15m euros (£12.8m) to part company with the rising star, but Chelsea are now prepared to walk away from the deal altogether.
With little time left to reach an agreement, the onus now seems to be on Sevilla to lower their demands, or keep an unhappy player at the club.
The move is also having ramifications for Ethan Ampadu, who Chelsea are reluctant to let leave on loan until they have signed a replacement.

Tuchel could allow Callum Hudson-Odoi to leave the club for regular first-team football with Borussia Dortmund keen on a loan deal.
The 20-year-old winger is yet to feature in the Premier League this season despite being named in the matchday squad for all three of Chelsea’s fixtures.
Dortmund are now said to be in talks with the Blues’ hierarchy over taking Hudson-Odoi on a season-long loan.
The move would no doubt frustrate Dortmund’s rivals Bayern Munich, who have seen several bids for the player rejected in the past.
Late Niguez talks
Chelsea are reportedly still pursuing the prospect of signing Saul Niguez from Atletico Madrid in a last-ditch bid for the midfielder.
Niguez’s future is uncertain despite boss Diego Simeone insisting he wants to keep the Spaniard at the club.
Discussions have been ongoing for weeks but Chelsea are not interested in signing Niguez permanently this summer, reports FourFourTwo.
They only want a deal if they can take the 26-year-old on an initial loan, as they see his acquisition as more of a ‘bonus’.
Hampering Chelsea’s negotiations in this department is the lack of interest in midfield duo Ross Barkley and Danny Drinkwater.
Both players are surplus to requirements at the Bridge, but Chelsea have been unable to shift either off the wage bill.
