IND vs ENG: Deepak Chahar Thinks He May Not Be Fully Fit Before The White Ball Leg Of The England Tour
Deepak Chahar, India’s T20 specialist, would need another four to five weeks to fully heal from a hamstring injury that kept him out of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Pacer Chahar and another centrally contracted cricketer, Washington Sundar, are undergoing rehabilitation at NCA alongside T Natarajan, who is rehabilitating from a hand injury.
Another noteworthy development is that Washington, a spin all-rounder, is poised to fly to England to play for Lancashire, a leading county team.
Deepak Chahar Thinks He Will Take Another 4-6 Weeks To Get Back To Full Fitness
“Washington is nearing full fitness and he needs a lot of game time, which he will get only in red-ball cricket. He is going to play for Lancashire and this exposure will do him a world of good,” a BCCI source told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Chahar appeared in fine shape during his morning session at the NCA after suffering an injury during the home series against the West Indies in Kolkata.
“I am bowling four to five overs at one go as per my rehab programme right now. My recovery is going pretty well and I think it will take another four to five weeks for me to get match fit,” Chahar told PTI.
The Rajasthan seamer conceded that getting fit in time for India’s T20 series against England in the second week of July will be impossible.
It is a step-by-step process as far as recovery is concerned. I don’t think I will be fit for England T20s. Once I am match fit, I will need to play some club-level games to check my fitness.”
When asked if he would be fit by the WI tour, he said, “I can’t say that but I will definitely try and get fit by then. Let’s see.”
Between July 22 and August 7, India will play three ODIs and five T20Is in the West Indies.
