Tamil Nadu cricketer Baba Indrajith showered praise on fellow state player, Dinesh Karthik, for keeping up the drive to play and perform well and make a comeback into the Indian national team.
Karthik last played for India back in the 2019 ODI World Cup and was completely out of the picture for a spot in the squad. However, the 37-year-old signed a contract with Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the IPL and set the stage alight with his incredible performances.
The wicket-keeper batter amassed 330 runs in 16 matches coming at a strike rate close to 200. He played as a specialist finisher in the side and the move worked wonders for both the franchise and Karthik himself.
“His story has been amazing because, to be very honest, if I was in his position or his age, I don’t think I would have had his motivation. He has made too many comebacks. To make so many comebacks you need to have the passion and the drive.”
“It’s not just that he went into the season thinking, ‘Let’s see what happens’. It’s not like that. He’s planned it… He’s been on the circuit for a very long time. His work ethic, his passion for the game, and his drive are something else,” Indrajith said in a chat with Sportskeeda.
“It was a great experience because to be picked in the auction for KKR” – Baba Indrajith
The 27-year-old Indrajith has been doing well in the domestic circuit but his first big break came when he was signed by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the IPL 2022 mega auction.
“It was a great experience because to be picked in the auction for KKR, it’s a big franchise, and I [was] waiting to be picked in the IPL for a very long time, I’ve worked hard to get there.”
“I’ve been on the domestic circuit for close to nine to 10 years, so I specifically worked in the last year or two to get into the IPL and worked on my white-ball game,” he also added.
