Misbah-ul-Haq, who has scored overall 11,132 international runs, is Pakistan’s most successful Test captain with 26 Test wins in his bag. Also, he is the only Pakistan skipper to lead Pakistan to the No. 1 position in the ICC Test rankings.
I mistimed the shot on which I had the most confidence – Misbah-ul-Haq
In the 2007 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup final between India and Pakistan, the Indian team posted the target of 158 for the Pakistan National Cricket Team.
During the last over of the match, while chasing the target, Misbah had hit a six on the 2nd delivery to Joginder Sharma, and they only needed 6 runs from 4 balls to win the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup.
However, on the third delivery, Misbah-ul-Haq played a scoop shot off a length ball and was caught by Sreesanth at short fine-leg and eventually Pakistan lost the match.
During a chat with former teammates Shoaib Akhtar and Mohammad Yousuf, earlier this year, in a YouTube video, the Ex-Pakistan captain talked about his scoop shot in the World Cup final.
Misbah-ul-Haq revealed that he had gotten overconfident and mistimed the shot in which he had the most confidence.
He elaborated: “In 2007, I always say that throughout every game, I scored so many fours playing that shot. Even with the fine leg in place, I was taking singles while playing that shot against Australia.
“Against spinners, I used to beat fine leg with that shot. So, you can say I got overconfident. I mistimed the shot on which I had the most confidence.”
