France 3-1 Poland: Three Things We Learned – Soccer News

France were always expected to be the favourites heading into a clash with Poland and in the end, their round of 16 game at the World Cup played out how many expected – if you just look at the scoreline, that is.

Les Bleus came away with a 3-1 win to progress to the last eight of the tournament and today, we’re goin to pick out a few notable takeaways from their encounter.

Gutsy Poles

Poland looked like a shell of themselves against Argentina in their final group game but this time around, they made up for it – in both the first and second half. They defended resolutely before going on a nice spell that saw them put the French under pressure, to the point whereby Hugo Lloris had to make a few important saves. They also got themselves on the scoresheet, too, and they really have nothing to be ashamed of based on their performance.

Superstar Kylian

Kylian Mbappe is absolutely ridiculous. The 23-year-old is easily one of the best footballers in world football and he showcased that everyone to see against the Poles. His two goals were taken brilliantly and for the second straight World Cup, all of the headlines appear to be about him. He’s showing no real signs of slowing down and with five goals, the golden boot already seems to have a clear frontrunner.

The dream match-up

As a result of England’s big win over Senegal, we will now see old rivals lock horns again as France and England collide in the quarter-finals of the FIFA World Cup. It’s not a stretch to suggest these are two of the best three teams in the entire tournament and because of that, a parade of other nations will be licking their lips. It’ll be tight, but Didier Deschamps will be licking his lips after this outing.
