Following Queen Elizabeth II Death — In Respect — ‘The Crown’ To Stop Filming For Season 6

The Crown is a love letter to her and I have nothing to add for now!

The Crown is being put on hold after the death of Queen Elizabeth II. The longest-reigning monarch, who died on September 8th at the age 96, is at the centerstage of the Netflix’s series dramatisation on her life, legacy, and career. Peter Morgan the maker of Netflix’s The Crown, which follows the life of Queen Elizabeth, shared that the show’s 6th season will pause production to mourn the Queen’s death.

The Crown is a love letter to her and I ve’ nothing more add for now, just silence and respect ” — Morgan said in an email to Deadline. “I expect we will stop filming in respect for now .”

Back in 2016 when the show was first premiered, another one of the shows creators — Stephen Daldry had told Deadline that the cast would stop production in case of the Queen’s death.

“None of us know when will that time come, but it would be right and proper to show respect to the Queen”, Dalrdy said at the time. “It would be a simple tribute and a mark of respect. She is a global phenomenon and that’ll be the most appropriate thing to do.”

Since it began airing, The Crown has won 21 Emmy Awards, including outstanding drama series for its fourth season.

Season 5 is set ti release in November 2022, while production for season 6 is already underway. The upcoming episodes will feature a new cast portraying the late Queen and her family, with Imelda Staunton taking over the role of the monarch following Olivia Colman’s turn in season 3 and 4.

Three actresses have already played the role of Queen Elizabeth throughout the 4 seasons so far — Clarie Foy starred as a younger Elizabeth before becoming Queen, Olivia Colman during her early years as the Monarch, and Imelda Staunton — who will take on the role of the Queen when the season 5 airs this November.

Series maker Peter Morgan, who also penned Oscar-winning — The Queen with Helen Mirren in the lead role had made an important statement way back in 2020 that Queen Elizabeth is a “mother to the nation” and he further concluded saying:

” She is a constant , not just in your life, there is not anyone alive in the UK who hasn’t had her as head of the state the entirety of their life. She ties generations together”.
