Ex-Chelsea boss Antonio Conte lands new role as Sky Sport Italia pundit

SKY SPORTS ITALIA have announced Antonio Conte will join their team as a pundit this season.

The former Inter Milan boss, 52, will be a special studio guest for coverage of Champions League and international football.

Antonio Conte has landed his first role since leaving Inter Milan at the end of last season

Sky Italia confirmed the news on Twitter with a short video of Conte in action, showing the Italian making decisions in the board room and behind-the-scenes in the studio control room.

The post was captioned: “Get ready, it will be fun.”

And with fellow guests such as West Ham icon Paolo Di Canio, ex-England boss Fabio Capello and Juventus legend Alessandro Del Piero, viewers are in for a treat.

But their gain could be Arsenal’s loss, as Conte was hotly tipped to take over from Mikel Arteta, who is under serious pressure after losing to Brentford, Chelsea and Manchester City without scoring a goal.

Currently, he is favourite to be the first Premier League manager to be sacked this season.

Conte was priced at 6/1 to succeed the Spaniard, making him one of the favourites for the Arsenal job – but that was before he landed the role with Sky.

In reaction to that news former Gunners striker Kevin Campbell warned Conte against a return to London, having previously managed Chelsea.

Campbell told the Express: “If I’m Antonio Conte and I’m looking at that yesterday (the Manchester City defeat), I wouldn’t go anywhere near it.

“Let’s be honest, I wouldn’t go anywhere near it. Because it’s the basics. They’re getting the basics wrong.

“And if you can’t do the basics as a professional footballer…

“The manager can prepare you as much as he wants for a game. Once you cross that game, it’s your job. You can’t let [Ilkay] Gundogan beat you at the back post.

“It’s not up to the manager to go and press people and stay on your feet and communicate and be hard to beat.”
