Ed Sheeran thought he might be gay when he was growing up because he had a “feminine” side and he loved Britney Spears.
Speaking on the Man Man Man podcast, Ed Sheeran said he always had a “feminine side” – and he even thought he might be gay when he was a child.
“I’m not a hugely masculine person anyway,” Sheeran said. “I have a definite feminine side to the point where, when I was a kid, I thought I was gay for a bit.
“I definitely had a big feminine side. I love musical theatre, I love pop music, I love Britney Spears. My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football.”
The singer went on to explain that he’s not into traditional things associated with masculinity, such as fixing cars.
Ed Sheeran learned about female empowerment from his wife and daughter
He also heaped praise on his wife Cherry Seaborn, saying she is “super pro women”.
“As soon as we started dating my life kind of shifted to that,” Sheeran said. “She plays in a female hockey team, we hang out with them all the time. It’s very much like women empowerment.
“She works a very high level job where she’s the top of her field. Before Lyra was born it was kind of that but now Lyra is born it’s even more that.”
Ed Sheeran’s latest comments come just days after the release of his fourth studio album Equals, which spawned the chart-topping singles “Bad Habits” and “Shivers”.
The singer recently found himself in hot water with collaborator and friend Elton John when he blabbed about the pair’s upcoming Christmas single before the official announcement.
“I was sworn to secrecy and then big mouth f**king Sheeran goes to the Netherlands!” John joked in an interview with NME, referencing Sheeran’s decision to spill the beans on Dutch radio.
“It’s supposed to come out – we haven’t finished it yet, so there’s still work to be done,” John teased.
