14-Year Old India Net Bowler Raunak Troubles SA Players Bavuma, Markram, Shamsi In The Nets

The 14-year-old India left-arm spinner Raunak Waghela, who was roped in as a net bowler by the South Africa National Cricket Team, troubled South Africa captain Temba Bavuma and batting all-rounder Aiden Markram in the nets.

The five-match T20I series between India and South Africa will begin in Delhi on Thursday, followed by matches in Cuttack (June 12), Visakhapatnam (June 14), Rajkot (June 17) and Bengaluru (June 19).

South African players are leaving no stone unturned in terms of preparations. They are preparing well to tackle the Indian spinners – Yuzvendra Chahal, Ravi Bishnoi and Axar Patel – as spinners are expected to play a huge role in the five-match T20I series given the subcontinent conditions.

Meanwhile, 14-year-old India left-arm spinner left the South Africa batters baffled in the nets and the likes of Bavuma and Markram struggled against the spinners.

Notably, Waghela is a local cricketer from Delhi, who trains at the Venkateshwar Cricket Academy. He is also part of Delhi’s U16 team.

Speaking to SportsTak, the 14-year-old Indian spinner talked about how even the premier Proteas players, including their skipper Bavuma, were struggling against him in the nets. He also said that he dismissed Tabraiz Shamsi several times.

“I had a good experience bowling to the SA batters. I learnt a lot. I would take this learning and use it in my matches going forward. I did some useful fielding drills, picked up bowling skills and plenty more. I bowled to Aiden Markram, Temba Bavuma and Tabraiz Shamsi, whom I bowled to and even got them out,” Raunak, who plays for the Venkateshwara Cricket Academy, told Sports Tak.

“I troubled Temba Bavuma and Aiden Markram. I, in fact, dismissed Tabraiz Shamsi out 3-4 times. I was excited to bowl to them but when I bowled it, was pretty normal. They also play the way we do, but there is obviously a difference of mindset.”

Meanwhile, the youngster also bowled to the Indian team and he received a piece of advice from Rishabh Pant, who will be leading India in the series against South Africa.

“I bowled to Pant, Ishan Kishan, Deepak Hooda and Shreyas Iyer. Rishabh Pant sir told me keep bowling the way you are. You are bowling well so keep working hard,” added the youngster.
